I don't think they can offer it for free. Would you want to provide tech support and not get paid for it?
I agree they could lower the cost a bit.

There are and have been free dialup Internet services for a long time now... The catch is that you only get so many hours per month that you're allowed to use it and you have to see more advertisements. NetZero is a current provider of this service that I'm aware of. I think that dialup should be free of charge without limitations though with all the problems that it has with disconnecting and tying up the phone line.

Yeah, I think that would be a good idea. At the very least, basic dial-up service should be available to everyone. The net has become such an important information source that the benefits of everyone having access to it outweighs the profits that IP companies make. They can easily recoup any lost revenue by selling a couple more banner ads and/or pop-up ad.

No, because like all services, it costs to run "the internet". Companies would do nothing but lose money if they had to provide a free service. If the government picked up the tab, we would eventually be paying for it through tax increases. Nothing in life is free, ever. We don't deserve to get the internet for free. The people who provide that service have to feed and clothe their families, they have to get paid for the work they do.

Yeah I think it should be free because it's good for the education and we also we increasingly depend on it.
In the near future it will be hard to do anything without internet.
I think later in the future you will buy everything via internet. All the stores will be closed then because the companies want to save the salary for the store employees.

Yes of course the internet should be public domain, but tell that to the fat cats at the phone companys. They build the whole networks so they shure as heck are going to charge.

Yes I think it should be because it will stay arround & only get more popular, it's a common instrument of comunication. It makes so much information available to anyone who is interested & searching. I think it is very important that internet is available to everyone.

Yes, I think it should, as it is becoming an essential part of everyday life. It can be used as part of education etc. to help lower the cost to the government.
