What is homecoming is it at the start of a school year or what?

homecoming is usually during football season and it is a special game that is played on the home field with alumni returning to cheer on their home team. it is often celebrated with a dance, parade, and a homecoming queen. the queen is nominated and elected by the student body to represent the most popular/prettiest/brightest of the senior class. she is usually crowned during the half time of the game. guys ask their special girl to the game and dance and usually give their date a huge corsage with long trailing ribbons, gigantic mums, and trinkets.
