IF you have to ask such a question then you are really showing your young age. You never saw it when it first hit the big screen. I think I was six when It first came out. For the time it had the most unreal special effects of any movie.

Oh an I bet you think that jackass is top shelf material.

I'm not sure you're really asking because you're curious. From your comment, "I think it sucks," it sounds to me like you're trying to provoke Star Wars fans into an argument.

So I won't tell you what I think of the movie... because I don't want to argue opinions with you. I WILL tell you what people think is so great about it, though...

First of all, when it came out in 1979 there had been NOTHING like its special effects before. Space movies looked more like Flash Gordon and the old Star Trek series... you could tell everything was a toy or a model, and nothing looked very convicing or real. So for lots of movie-goers, the effects alone made the movie great back in the 70's.

Also, the plot is adapted, but pulled almost directly from classic mythologies. The story of the young pupil who is taught by the old master... The old master then dies (or, more likely, is killed by the bad guy) and pupil has to become a master and kill the enemy. This can be seen in ALL classic mythologies from the ancient greeks and romans, through japanese samurai legends, and continuing on to present day.... even Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed this basic plotline. You can't dismiss the storyline as sucking without also dismissing thousands of years of classic myths as sucking.

Y'know?

You are allowed your opinion, but many around the world see it differently. Star Wars is a grand fantasy about war, love, good, evil & how all can affect a person in ways that cannot always be predicted. Redemption is a major theme with Anakin/Vader saying it was too late for him, but proving otherwise when he saw the evil that took EVERYONE ELSE HE LOVED (Shmi, Padme, Qui-gon, Obi) try to take the last member of his family (Luke). He was finally able to find the strentgh to save someone he cared for. Isn't that we all hope & strive for.

Oh my goodness! I lived for Star Wars! Maybe it's because I was always Daddy's little girl and the first episode was around my time of birth so I grew up with it. I can't believe it's over!

I love the first three. But, I would'nt blame you if the only ones you saw were the last trilogy. I don't think those three will gather any new fans to the franchise.

The whole star wars thing reminds me of a high school play or something. I never liked it. They made a ton of money though.
