Pregnant women should definitely get dental care - especially around the 4th month when your gums are most affected by pregnancy. A dental cleaning is safe. X-rays on the other hand are not and there is no reason why you couldn't have a cleaning but hod off on the x-rays. There is nothing that can't wait or that is worth exposing your baby to the radiation from the x-rays - even if you wear the lead bib. Don't risk it.

It is actually a great idea to go to the dentist during pregnancy because alot of expectant mothers actually get cavities and and "softened" teeth because the growing fetus is pulling some of the mothers calcium away. Calcium is what makes bones and teeth hard and strong. As for the xray - thats a no-no during pregnancy. Xrays can be very harmful to the baby. The only time you should ever have an xray during pregnancy is if you are in a life-threatening situation where the benefits outweigh the risks.

When I was pregnant, my doctor told me to just have a cleaning done and schedule the rest for after I had my daughter. I don't think that it'd do a great deal of damage to go to the dentist and have mouth x-rays done, but just to be on the safe side, I would wait another 22 weeks. Good Luck and congrats on the baby!

You can go to the dentist, but tell them you are pregnant. They will probably wait to the Xrays until you deliver your baby. That's what mine did.

Perfectly fine to visit the dentist, but I'd pass on the xray.

ok to go to the dentist, I wouldn't take any shots, though. Dentist would know for sure. My dentist covers everyone with a big lead apron from the neck down.

I had the same question through my pregnancy. My doctor said that it's not recommended to be exposed to X-rays while pregnant (unless emergency). Just let your dentist know when you get there, and they'll probably just put it off until your next visit.

Doctors strongly recommend that pregnant women go into the dentist for regular cleanings. Dental x-rays are generally considered harmless because they don't emit as much radiation as normal x-rays.

it is actually recommded that all pregnant women see the dentist when they are pregnant. An xray is really up to weather the doc thinks it is a good idea or not.
