Names Of Serial Killers

I think it just sounds better to call them by their full name so as to not get a serial killer confused with an innocent person who shares the same 1st and last name. BTW, Ted Bundy has a middle name and if I'm not mistaken, Ted might not be his 1st name either.

I think it used to be done to separate serial killers vs. non serial killers. You have to kill a certain number of people to get the "serial" status. When the middle name is used, it's to tell the public the person had reached being a "serial" killer.
However, this practice is starting to fade, and just the first and last name are being used.

John Wilkes Booth, the guy who shot Lincoln wasn't a serial killer, but his middle name was also used.

From what I understand, the police do this so it would be harder for someone to have the same name as the killer. While it may be a kick for some, sharing the name of a serial killer can be devastating.

It's all the media. They tend to use the serial killers FULL name, including middle, I guess to make the person sound more dangerous.

Theodore Robert Bundy.
Richard Franklin Speck.

It's not that they didn't have middle names, they just chose not to use them. Gacy always used his.

The stereotype is that assassins have three names, not serial killers: John Wilkes Booth, Mark David Chapman, Lee Harvey Oswald, etc.
