Let me start by saying that I am Christian, so you know where I'm coming from.

Will we ever be capable of creating life? From a religious point of view we would think we can't, because this ability is generally associated with a being superior to humans. But there has been progress in testing what we think were the conditions of early Earth that allowed life to be created from inanimate matter. So, based on what you know about investigations on the origin of life, will we ever be successful?

I think I didn't explain myself adequately. I meant, will we ever create life 'from scratch'? That is, using non-living matter. This excludes any kind of reproduction using already existing organisms (or any part of them).

I'll throw in my 2 cents because in these rooms ... well the answers ain't great.

YES - scientists will certainly create life - viruses are alive in their way and biologists have already created simple replicating viruses from scratch - that is from off the shelf chemicals. Look it up.

There is a difference between can't and shouldn't.

Humans have, all those cloned animals are artificially created life (which presumably you meant). Just because religion suggests that an activity shouldn't be done, doesn't mean it's impossible. Technologically, humans could be cloned at this point, but it is so inefficient (and illegal in some places) that it hasn't been accomplished. But consider, if all sorts of other animals have been cloned, why couldn't humans be cloned (not shouldn't, but couldn't)?

In small scale terms, at the J. Crag Venter Institute (link below) scientists are attempting to generate microbial life from scratch, sort of.

NO making a single cell or even a protein from the resources available is nearly impossible. the complexity of life is so great. even though cloning can be done i don't think we can create a living organism scientifically.

Yes, when we have children humans are creating life. Also, we have cloned a sheep, Dolly, although she didn't last long we still did it. We have the capablities to produce life from childbirth and cloning farm animals.

First off, didn't god tell adam and eve to be fruitful and multiply? Did he tell them that there were certain ways in which they were not permitted to accomplish this task? Christain or not it seems reasonable to me that any way we can further our species numbers, health, well being and happiness would be a positive for the human race.

Other than creatin children (which does not fit your criteria; you said from scratch) I don't think so. God is the only Creator.
