The beaches in South Florida are used every day (except for during a hurricane!). The water temperature is almost always around 80 degrees. People from northern states are called "Snow Birds" and visit here during the winter months. It really is nice here during the winter. The weather is great- a few days will be cold, otherwise expect 70 to 80 degrees in the winter.
Just be careful when you visit the beach, and read the signs near the lifeguard stations. If you see purpleish plastic looking things lying around on the sand- steer clear! These are called man-o-war and they are poisonous. Even if they look dead and shriveled up, they can still hurt you.
Many beaches also have picnic areas- it makes for a really fun day if you bring some food and stake out a table.

Yes, Yes and Yes, bring your bathing suit, February is Florida's warm spring and some days are like summer (to northerners anyway). You will love South Florida, its a beautiful area for a vacation. Have a great time at the beach.

Yes, people swim here year round. It's fine to swim.
There will definitely be people at the beaches, but most will just be there for sunbathing and people-watching.
As for swimming, the water won't seem warm at that time of year and there won't be many people in beyond just basic wading.
But that doesn't mean you can't go in.
If you want to go in for just a novelty dip in the ocean, have fun.
If you want to swim seriously for exercise, you'll find it chilly at first, but after you get used to it, you'll find it refreshing and not bad at all.
I recommend going to the beach around 2nd or 3rd street and swimming from one buoy to the next. It will certainly not be crowded. There are lifeguards on duty during daytime hours who can watch you if you have any concerns about open ocean swimming. You'll find it to be a great workout.
Enjoy your stay.

You can swim almost any day of the year in South Florida. I've lived in South Florida all my life and it rarely gets cold enough not to swim. While the rest of the country is shoveling snow, I'm deciding which pair of shorts and flip flops I'll wear.

Of course. The water temp is still in the low 70's even in February. But it all depends on the weather. If you get a cold snap you wont see anyone except maybe the bravest souls in the water. But if you get a 80 degree stretch it will look the same as a summer afternoon.

Sure , but no one who lives here goes in the water at that time of year . Mostly what we call snowbirds . A Floridian gets cold when the temp. gets below 65 . Our coldest months are usually Feb. and March , maybe 4 or 5 days where we get close to freezing .
