I agree. however there is no rule that prevents Shawne Merriman from being in the pro bowl or Defensive player of the year. i mean during the off season they can change the rule, but this year he could end up DPoY.
I really think Champ Bailey and Jason Taylor really make a better case for DPoy, but you never really know what the people that chose this stuff will think.
every team the NFL's strategy against Champ Bailey is AVOID AT ALL COST. and he still gets INTs when the ball is not thrown anywhere near him. sure he won't have the numbers, but a defensive player that has that kind of attention deserves to be DPoY.
Jason Talyor is what made the Dolphins such a great defense. he himself pretty much put the entire defense on his back and carried them.
Shawn Merriman- leads in sacks, but he does have a great line that clogs up the holes so he can go up untouched
so if you look at just stats it should be Merriman
if you look at who offenses fear most it is Bailey
if you look at who impacts their defense the most it is Taylor

I would think if you violated league rules for any reason that you shouldn't be eligible. You shouldn't be able to go the the pro bowl or get any awards that year. Its not fair to people who didn't violate any rules. I heard that Merriman took an over the counter product that he wasn't aware of a problem. But I have heard quite a few football players say you know without a doubt what you can take versus what you can't. Its like if you took something fine.....Admit to it....I think so much more of people who made a mistake and then owned up to it.....I mean look at Baseball all those guys look like idiots who deny they took anything.............Come on you are an athlete its your job to know. It's just a cop out.......I think its insulting to all the defensive players that Merriman gets to go to the pro bowl... I would say either Champ or Jason Taylor should be defensive player of the year...

I think the NFL is talking out both sides of their mouth. If a person tests positive for drug abuse then they should not be eligible for the pro bowl or any awards. Otherwise it sends the wrong message.

I would pick either Taylor or Bailey. Both have been excellent this year.
