For Labour Take:

For Your Partner or Coach
• Money for parking and change for vending machines.

• A few basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant.

• A change of clothes

• Some snacks and something to read during the early stages.

• A camera/video camera and film or tape or a memory card and batteries. Someone has to document the big event! (NOTE: Not all hospitals allow videotaping of the birth itself, but there's usually no rule against taping during labor or after the birth.)

• A bathing suit. If your partner wants to take a bath or shower during labor, you may want to jump in with her.

For After Delivery:

• A fresh nightgown.

• Snacks! After many hours of labor, you're likely to be pretty hungry and you don't want to have to rely on the hospital's food. So bring your own crackers, raisins, and granola bars.

• A nursing bra, breast pads, and maternity underwear, if you'd prefer not to wear the net panties they'll give you at the hospital. Chances are, whatever underwear you do wear the first few days will get stained, even with sanitary pads (which the hospital provides).

Reading material.

• Toiletries. Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, lip balm, deodorant, and makeup, if it's important to you. Hospitals will have soap, shampoo, and lotion, but you might prefer your own brands.

• Your address book and prepaid phone card or cell phone. After the baby's born you'll want to call family and friends to let them know the good news. Note: Some hospitals don't allow cell phones to be used in the labor and delivery area, so you may want to ask about it ahead of time.

• A going-home outfit. Bring something roomy and easy to get into — believe it or not, you'll probably still look 5 or 6 months pregnant — along with a pair of flat shoes. The last thing you'll be worrying about when you go home is whether your outfit is fashionable.

For your baby

• An infant car seat. You can't drive your baby home without one!

• A going-home outfit (one-piece stretchy outfits are easiest) and a snowsuit if it's very cold

• A receiving blanket (a heavy one if the weather's cold)

• A pair of socks or booties

• A cap (although they'll usually give you one at the hospital)

• Baby nail clippers or emery board.

What not to bring

• Jewelry

• Lots of cash, credit cards, or any other valuables

• Work. Yes, we actually know fast-track types who have sent business e-mails from the hospital room, made work-related phone calls, and reviewed spreadsheets.

keep it simple. if u are having a natural birth expect a maxium of 3 day stay, c-section 5 day stay. don't forget the digital camera!
for u:
toiletries, get the small pkgs at cvs or something
a loose take home outfit, something comfy
a robe
nightgown
magazines,puzzles,ipod

for ur partner
1 outfit, just in case he/she doesn't want to leave ur side
snacks for him

for the baby
u can't leave the hospital without the infant car seat
take home outfit
blankets
u r going straight home from the hospital so u may not need to pack more than 2 diapers. depending on how long the car ride will be.

good thinking cherryvalley, a list of phone numbers is excellent idea.

Just a few tips from my experience:

the night gown didn't work . I would have been more comfy in a shorty pj or since it's winter maybe some nice warm pj (Pants) You will be bleeding alot so you want something that will hold those darn pads.

Lots of xtra undies.
xtra comfy pads.
some of your favorite snacks
camera
robe
slippers
book or mags
maybe a portable cd player

You might be bored sometimes but try to get as much sleep as you can. I suggest letting the baby sleep in the nursery at nite so you can re-coop a little from the birth before going home. The nurses will take good care of him and you WILL need your strength.

For You:

Nightwear (nightdress/pajamas, slippers, dressing gown.)

Washbag - soap, shampoo, toothpaste etc

Comfortable clothes to come home in (sweatpants, T-shirt etc)
(or like me you could come home in your PJs, dressing gown and slippers because in the excitement of labour your fortgot to pack any separate clothes!)

also:

hair ties (to tie your hair back)
flannel (cold flannel on your forehead helps in labour)
massage oils for labour

Books and magazines for your stay in hospital or if you have your own room and theres a tv take some dvds in to watch (thats what I did!!)

For Baby:

Sleepsuits (3 or 4 should be enough unless you're going to be staying a while)

Newborn size Nappies (Diapers) - unless the hospital provides them and changing kit - baby wipes, cotton wool etc

Warm snowsuit/hat/mittens for coming home (if the weather is cold) - you'll also need to make sure you have a newborn size carseat in whatever car you'll be bringing the baby home in.

Make sure you have all your friends/families phone numbers to ring them after the birth and spare change for the phone if you can't use your mobile phone in the hospital!

Good luck!!

Make sure you bring everything that is needed for staying anywhere. For instance, your toothbrush, hair brush, snacks (in case you don't like anything they have), bring an extra set of clothes, something to suck on like candy or ice, bring the baby a few sets of clothing for pictures & etc., a baby blanket, remember you must have your car seat in your car ready to go, a camera is always handy, and a helping hand. Don't forget you must have a pediatrician picked out with all their information and I would recommend a few just in case.

you should pack the important things you need like toothbrush, brush, personal thing you use on a day to day basis. and for sure bring something comfortable to wear espesially after you have the baby and even before that time you have the baby.
bring a couple of change of clothes thing you would wear before getting out of hosipital. trust me i have been in the hosipital 2 times for both of my boys and its nice to have extra things with you while in hosipital.
