Really. Its a sexual perversion. If you like sex with animals, you're sick, if you like sex with children, you're sick; if you like sex with bondage or pain, you're sick; but if you like sex with someone the same gender as you, which is just as much a perversion of the natural order, its supposed to be socially acceptable?

And "consent" has nothing to do with it. Does a bipolar person "consent" to be bipolar? Just because 2 people have the same disorder and they feed off each other doesn't answer the question.

Rich F...your going to get a lot of grief for your question, Unfortunately a lot of this is due to peoples "programmed responses" to what has now been deemed socially acceptable and those that disagree are the one with a diorder..homophobia...lol it's really amazingly twisted.
However your original hypothesis is correct....
As a species we have 1 base function to reproduce & continue our blood line.
We as humans like to think that we are far superiour to the rest of the animals on the planet...but really we to are just an animal...just a perticularly smart one.
So as is the case any animal we have a need to breed. and therefore any intentional sexual activity/procreation which is knowingly incapable of producing offspring is correctly determined to be abborent sexual behavior.
Finally you will first here a number of responces about "love"...this is a matter of the heart and for philsophers...and does not hold water...because how can you define love...what if some one truly in their heart love a table and wish to have sexual relations with it...is it therefore ok?
p.s. to anyone who tries to counter/continue with the lie that homosexuality exsists in other species...no...no it doesnt...what exsists is Alpha domminance purley a superficial pyscological matter. there are not any attempts at coitus or penetration...

Dam your getting alot of grief but this is really a good question. Animals have gay tendencies though and sex with bondage or pain isnt a mental illness its pleasure that some people are just into. I dont think theres anything wrong with gay people in general. I think gay people were raised knowing they had those feelings and thats something they couldnt help. I think its the people placing so much judgement on them, making it hard for them to be accepted, and making their life hell are the ones driving them crazy to the point of mental illness. Their being gay shouldnt even be a issue if their not doing anything to physically harm me they can do what ever and like who they want. And religious people have no right to place judgement on anyone cause theyre just contridicting theirself and their belief when they do it.

Technically speaking, you have a point. The "natural order" would be defined as sexual intercourse between a man and a woman for the purposes of procreation- to continue the existence of the human species. Therefore, since homosexuality cannot, on its own, produce offspring, it could be said to fall outside the natural order. However, one must then also deem ANY sexual practice which is not for the purposes of procreation to be outside the natural order- including masterbation, oral sex (even between men and women), etc. Being, I assume, a straight male, I'm sure you don't want masterbation or oral sex to be considered a form of mental illness or a sexual perversion, right? And to address your added details- in the realm of sexuality, consent does play a huge role- you can't even compare it to other mental illnesses. Bottom line, if two same-sex adults, who are of sound mind, wish to have consentual sexual contact, that is no one's business but theirs.

You are extremely sick for being so close minded that would label such a large group of people "sick." Just imagine if someday someone called you sick for something that you were born with and that you have no control over. What a horrible and hurtful thing to say. I answered you question about American losing its moral compass, and I commented that it was an excellent question. All I have to say now is that I thought America was beyond the days when one group of people treated another group of people as you are doing now without any cause. If America is losing its moral compass, you're certainly proud loser. I hope that you can see, from the responses the yahoo community has given, that many of us still do have our moral compass. First of all, equating homosexuality with bestiality or child abuse is absurd.
Homosexuality was not considered a "perversion" until the 12th Century. Religious teachings soon were incorporated into legal sanctions--which also condemned as "unnatural" things like non-procreative sex, sex outside of marriage, or sex with the woman on top.
Some psychologists and psychiatrists still hold negative personal attitudes toward homosexuality. However, empirical evidence and professional norms do not support the idea that homosexuality is a form of mental illness or is inherently linked to psychopathology.

It is far from being a mental illness. Our society has labeled it this, even though it's wrong, because it is not in our social norm. There are other cultures that see homosexuality (and bestiality, sadomasochism, incest, whatever) as a norm.
