The registered owner of the car is merely responsible for it under the law. The true ownership is decide by who paid for it or to whom it has been given. If you both bought it then either of you can try to sell it- same as any of the rest of the property in the mariage. If it is sold and one person keeps the proceeds, then the other might have a claim to the money under the final divorce settlement.

Whose name is on the title? If only your name is on it, your ex cannot sell it or legally take possession of it. If both of your names are on the title, your ex still cannot legally sell it without your signature on the title.

Try the sites below. On the 1st site, make sure to change the state in which you live. The last site is an affordable way to get access to your legal rights and get legal protection. Hope this helps.

i dont thik he is allowed to do that as it is registered to you. you should seek advice from a lawyer/solicitor. if you bought it then he cant, and he shudnt b able 2 if it is in your name. if u have a job and use the car for work, then he wont be allowed, or if he does, the the gov shud get you a courtesy car.

The registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner. Who bought it?

I don't think he is able to sell it without your express permission if you are the registered owner and it is in your sole name. Hold on to that log book!

If the car is registered to you, you are the only one legally, who can sel it. If anyone else sells it, then they are guilty of theft.
