Keeping animals in an enclosed cage is not cruel, if the cage is big enough, and clean, and suitable for whichever animal you're keeping. In the wild, an animal only a certain amount of space or territory.
How about a couple leopard geckos? 10 gallons per leopard gecko is usually recommended, but you could get 2 leopard geckos in a 30 or 40 gallon tank, and that would be lots of room for them. You could put in plants, etc, make it look really like and natural and they would love it and be very happy.

You could likely find 2 young leopard geckos, a used 30-40 gallon tank and wire lid, for less than 100$. You would then just need to get a water fish, a heat source, and the tank decor.

it's not cruel, it's basic small animal safty.

ok, a small animal, just keep in mind, geckos, lizards, and even hamsters even have to go to a vet, and that can be costly since they are considered exotics. Second, remember inital set up can be just as costly. Do your research, especially on reptiles, as reptiles are very temperature specific, and need heating elements, u.v lights (for gecko's and lizards, which you have to buy new ones every 6 months, and are VERY expensive!), and adequte caging.

Just go to yahoo or google search engines and research what would be better.

the goosemoose site I am giving you has several forums for cats, dogs, ferrets, rats, and if they don't have the small animal forum you are looking for you can always go onto one of the small animal forums and ask the question about the specific small animal you are looking for.

it is no mean to put them in a cage. Sometimes we treat them like they were human babies and its not good for them either.
