I have not had any testing done except the first ob visit at 6 weeks. Shouldn't I be having the AFP test or something? Please help! Also do you think we could find out the sex this time? We have ultrasounds at every visit so if at all possible we want to go ahead and find out. I kinda want to wait but am too excited to start buying little things.

You should be givent he choice to have the tests done for genetic disorders (Downs Syndrom, systic fibrosis, etc). You shoudl also be given the choice to be screened for HIV and other STDs as well (even if you were tested before pregnancy). You shoudl also have a pap test done at some point (I htink mine was done around 15 weeks).

Your "Level 2" ultra sound is the BIG u/s done at around 20 weeks, where they usually do the gender identification...however, if yor doc is giving you ultrasounds, and is qualified to do gender identification, then you will possibly be able to find out earlier than the level 2. I found out I was havign a boy when I was 16 weeks pregnant. Depending on what type of ultrasound machine that is beign used, and assuming your baby cooperates (doesnt cross their legs and such) you shoudl be able to find out now what the sex is...HOWEVER....it will not be AS ACCURATE as if you waited until the 20 weeks. If you are havign a boy, it is usually easier to identify than a girl early on like you are now. So if you do find out soon, ask the doc how sure they are of the sex (they can never say 100% because of legal issues)...and whatever you go buy...keep the price tag on it and keep the reciept just in case you need to return it sometime.

Good luck and congrats!!!

At 15 weeks thare are no tests to be done. At 18 weeks they will send you in to have your IPT or integrated pregnancy testing... checks for downs syndrom and other birth defects. They start with a blood test, then an ultrasound... then at 21 weeks you'll have a second set of blood tests done. It is possible to check the sex of the baby at 15 weeks but its not guarenteed to be correct and also depends greatly on the machine that is used and the experience of the technition doing the ultrasound. They normally make you wait until 18 weeks again for this, and can easily be done when you have your IPT ultrasound. Good luck!

You should be seeing your doctor at least once a month. There are lots of test that you should be getting, but some doctors give them at different times. Since i dont know what tests you have had i can't tell you what you should still be getting done.
You usually can't tell what the sex of the baby is until about 18 weeks. But you can always give it a shot. I know how it is to want to go out and buy all that cute baby stuff.
I would recomend buying the book "what to expect when you're expecting". It was my pregnancy bible. I would keep going back to it for everything. It really helps. It tells you what you should expect at each part of pregnancy. What you should be doing. If you are sick what you can do for that, and just really prepares you for whats to come. Congratulations and good luck!

Also, i wouldnt recommend taking the down syndrom test and those types of things. Most of those come back positive and only upsets you through the pregnancy. Then when the time come for the baby, it turns out that the baby is just fine. There is no reason to worry yourself. Besides its your bundle of joy. Won't you love it no matter what?

u will have to wait till 20 weeks for sex. At 15 u can have fetal heart monitoring with a doppler - u can hear the heartbeat. Other than that, u need patience!! Good luck

Some testing should be coming up, but I am not sure if it is at the 15th or the next appt. I believe you might be able to know the sex, just ask and tell will tell you.
