Does open and free trade apply to prescription drugs?

If outsourcing jobs allows for the market to determine pricing, shouldn't we as americans be allowed to buy our prescription drugs from Canada?

Probably not even though they are the same drugs and are from American companies that are being sold there. The Canadians reap the benefit of medical research that goes into the development of new drugs and new cures. That is, in part, what we pay for here. It would be easier to pressure our Congressional reps to put more money into medical research so that we are not bearing the cost in our prices. What would be more important, buidling new guard rails on obscure highways or funding every fart let by every neer do well in the US or trying to regain or role as leader of the world in medical breakthroughs? We need to put more money in research and to reduce the cost of medicines and medical care in the US. Much of that cost now is due to medical lawsuits against drug companies (see them on tv?) or against doctors and hospitals. So we pay for fat cut liability lawyers too in our costs. Or you could move to Canada where our drugs cost less and medicine is socialized and they don't tolerate the type of legal profession we have here.

How can you use the phrases "free trade" and "prescription drugs" in the same sentence? There are so many layers of governmental and business regulation that the concept is laughable.
