I'd hate to be proven right on that one...and wasn't in my last relationship

I find it sad that a "fling" would be thought of as "disposable". Naturally there are different criteria for "flings" vs "marriage". But that doesn't necessarily make the flings any less intense, wonderful or deep! Indeed, I would say I've known more depth, passion, sharing, intimacy, wonder and many other GOOD things in "flings" than many people do in their marriages. Some marriages are downright dismal. Yet people keep enduring them. Is there anything about their semi-permanent status which makes them any more "right"? Any more special? I think not! I daresay, since my standards for marriage are so hard to find, if I didn't have the so-called fling (whether it be for a weekend or a year), I'd never know the fiery wonder which is intimacy! I have made memories I will treasure and never will forget. I hope my lovers can look back on these experiences with equal wonder and likewise cherish them. While I could say more, the main criterion for MARRIAGE is long-term compatability coupled with long-term planning for life. This is more the "marriage" criterion than depth or love. Because it ties directly into it weathering time. Harriet - I believe you commented on something else. I was ready to disagree with your term "disgusting" but I realized you were addressing the notion that those who would be acceptable for a fling COULD NOT be someone to marry. I feel something entirely differently. As far as I'm concerned.... it's that fling which BEGINS the path that could one day lead to a lifelong love. It's perhaps that very woman whose eyes into which I gazed and we said "let's share this tonight"... maybe we'll just keep on sharing... until one day we never want to let it go.

I read that too.... But if you think about it, a man that is hella sexy and masculine has all kinds of women running after him, so he is bound to cheat! Or something. I don't want a long term relationship anyway, so bring on Mr. Sexy.

makes sense to me. you always hear about how chicks getcrushes on gay men ( not really flamboyant men but you know what i mean) anyway, my man was always made fun of for being "gay" even though he's not. but i absolutely wnat him aorund for the long haul. he's got just enough masculinity to make me feel safe but enough compassion that i feel safe talking to him as well. and he's ******** hot. lol

i don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me. but i get the article anyway.
