You should be calling your doctor. That much cramping in such a short time is not a good sign.

Braxton Hicks contractions will ease up or cease completely if you become active. Walk around the block or at least around your living room, if you start feeling what you think are BHs. If they truly are, you'll notice them ease up/stop. If it's actual labor contractions, the activity will only make the contractions more painful.
Be sure to tell your OB about your BH contractions. Call him or her if you're worried about it being pre-term labor. Never, ever hesitate to call, even if you can talk to his or her nurse, they'll be able to tell you what's going on, probably without having you come in to the office.

you should be paying attention to other symptoms such as leaking fluid (a big gush...or just a continous leak..or both). Also, when you are having Braxton Hicks contractions, try drinking a big glass of water and laying on your left side. These contractions can be caused by being dehydrated as well. If your contractions stop or slow down when you chage what you are doing then they arent anything to worry about. (Ex: If you are laying down when you get them and they go away when you stand up and walk around...or if you are standing up/walking around and they go away if you lay down).
I woudl also mention this to the doctor on your next visit. There are alot of causes of BH contractions...dehydration, over working (walking too much, lifting, etc), being over emotional (crying alot, etc), stressful situation...the list goes on.
If you get them again and you try laying on yor left side after drinking water, or you try changing your actions and they do not go away and are still a regular pattern, go to Labor and Delivery right away please.
Good luck and congrats!

I was told that you have Braxton Hick contractions all through pregnancy, you can only tell it when you get bigger. However, I would still call and have them check you to make sure your not contracting any and need to go on bed rest or something. Good luck and congrats and your baby!

Braxton Hicks are just your uterus practicing for real labor contractions. If you were not experiencing any pain or bleeding then I wouldn't worry. To set your mind at ease call your doctor and see what they say. When the real thing comes you will know it, trust me!!

I had the same thing.
I have just had my first child and I was having Braxton Hicks from about 24 weeks on. I also had lots of them very close together.
I went to see my midwife about it and she gave me a urine test - they diagnosed that I had a UTI. I was given antibiotics and the Braxton Hicks dropped off dramatically until later in my pregnancy. It turns out that the bladder infection was making my uterus "irritable".
See your doctor or midwife and get yourself checked out.

Normal to have contractions after 20 weeks, as long as they are not increasing in intensity and/or having discharge. Happens earlier in subsequent children than the first.

hi-I have the same problem as you--my doctor just said to drink a glass of water and lay on my left side for an hour--you are getting them intensely like that because you are dehydrated.
(even though you may not think it)
they are scary when they come like that--but nothing to worry about.
plus we are all different with our pregnancies--some people just get them more often or more intense--or hardly get them at all
good luck!!
