I want to finally get my internet at home wireless. I only need something that can make it so I can have my desktop, Wii, laptop and DS on the same network. I probably won't have anymore than two of them online at the same time. Thanks for any recommendations.

I suggest the D-Link D-524

That's the router I have, and it handles 1 computer hardwired plus up to 3 laptops simultaneously with no problems. It was very easy to set up. It also only cost about $35 (I caught it on sale). The range is pretty good. 2 floors up and the signal is still 2/5 bars with no problems connecting.

I recently did a lot of research on what wireless routers work best with the new gaming consoles. The answer is the Belkin G router. I bought one, was very easy to setup, never had a problem, and I can have 2 laptops, 1 desktop, a PSP, and two Xbox 360s hooked up to it at the same time. Works great!

All of the 802.11g routers have come down in price since the newest 802.11n protocol has come out. Anything with the 802.11n will be by far the most expensive solution right now, and the 802.11g is very adequent for a home networking enviroment if price is an issue. With the 802.11g you can still get very good connection speeds but please ensure it implements the WPA encryption and not the WEP encryption as the WPA is much more secure.

Belkin is a great product, which is what I use, but many have had great sucess with Linksys and Netgear too. There are other manufactures with good products, but just make sure you do not put any 802.11b nodes on your network as 802.11b is much slower than 802.11g and 802.11n products. Your connection will downgrade to the slowest protocol on your network so even one 802.11b node, which can be a computer, a game console, entertainment device, printer, etc, will downgrade ALL nodes to that speed.

A recent study found that 80% of home networks do not use any security encryption methods at all, leaving them open and exposed to crackers, or just those WarDrivers looking for free internet access. Unless you are one of those members who are willing to provide this free internet service to travelers, which is a common practice amoung many, I highly suggest you use the security features such as the hardware firewall build in to routers and WPA encryption. If you DO decide to become one of those who provides free internet access please ensure your documents and private folders are protected first.

Most who provide this free internet connection for travelers usually provide a symbal on their house, or driveway which all of these folks have decided to use to declare the access is free to all who wish to use it.

Good luck and have a great day.

I would suggest getting any product that is made by Linksys. They have a number of cheap and affordable solutions. The company that I work for uses nothing but Linksys products and we have never had one to fail on us. Linksys also has a wonderful customer service department that can help you resolve just about any issue that you will ever have. In addition they have some of the very best interface software out there.

There are a number of cheaper solutions but for the quality you can't beat the price on the Linksys products. Many of them use technology from Cisco Systems.

Good luck in your purchases.

Belkin G router, cheap and easy. If you have Verizon DSL you might be able to get a modem with built in wireless.
