Skype isnt so great these days - endless payment problems for customers. What else is there?

I've had SunRocket for a few months now. In the beginning, I had a few problems with dropped calls. After talking to customer service, they had me do a speed test and changed some configuration online. I haven't had many problems lately, other than a few occassions of dialing and having to wait over 30 seconds for it to actually connect. Otherwise, no complaints.

One more thing. If you're in need of faxing, you definitely don't want to use SunRocket. It doesn't support fax, even though they'll try to convince you that most faxes work on their service and will give you two phone numbers (one which most people assume can be used as a fax line). But for $199 for the entire year, it's already a bargain.

I've only ever used Skype and have found it to be pretty reliable, the std rates are silly cheap and any credit you buy lasts for monts & months (doesn't expire quickly if you don't use skype frequently). Oh & I only had to buy credit as my mother lives interstate & doesn't have a computer or anything.

well...there are two possibilities: paid or free.
I recommend Vonage for the first one. They are decent from this point of view, and the quality of the conversation is really good.
