In a recent episode of Top Model, the judges were critiquing the models best pictures. Tyra Banks expressed her dissappointment in the look of one of the model's arms, stating that she was showing too much muscle tone. As I looked at this picture, I saw a normal, healthy amount of muscle tone. Her arms were lean but she looked athletic. In the modeling industry, it seems at least generally, the more bone-thin and stick-straight the models look, the better.

Do you think that it's time for the industry [modeling and other media] to popularize a more healthy look and weight in models? What would you consider to be a beautiful, yet healthy body? How might these changes effect the health of girls who aspire to look like them?

I have a lot of thoughts on this subject but I'd like to hear others'.
Thanks

there is something beautiful about almost every woman, tall, short, thin, thick, blonde, brunette, redhead. i think clothes should be designed to be worn by the median of the general populace not the shallow end of the pool. i have a daughter on the way and i am worried that her self image will be jaded by media. i will do my best to teach her better.

I actually agree completely with your thoughts so far!

I have two nieces who I worry about all the time. My eldest niece at only 10 yrs old had said she thought she was fat! She's actually short, but slender and totally healthy...hardly an once of fat on her then or now...both she and her sister are athletic.
Yes, I think the modeling industry as well as the fashion industry in general needs to change!
My sister-in-law banned any fashion or celebrity mags in the house. It got my niece to stop looking to models and too-thin celebs as role models!

Well, for one, I'm a plus size model and there's indeed time for a change because the industry seriously looks down to bigger and healthier looking girls.

I totally agree, I really like the Dove adverts shown here in the U.K which show REAL women no matter what their bodies look like..
