I would say the first thing the Democrats will do to hurt the middle class will be to attempt to roll back the Bush tax cuts, if they fail and they still retain power in 2010, God forbid, they will simply not renew the Bush tax cuts.

Alright, I am getting really tired of having to write the same thing over and over again to correct the same misconception many people seem to have.

For the people that somehow believe the Democrats are actually out to help the middle class and will "soak" the rich, making them pay most of the taxes. Please remember there are more Democrat millionaires than there are Republicans millionaires. So when Democrats want to raise capital to pay for social programs that benefit no one, except for the Democrats who created them, where do you think they are going to get the money from?

From millionaires, of whom a majority are Democrats or from the middle class?

If you make more than $10 an hour and less than $100 an hour and you are a Democrat than you are fool.

And vertical732 if you think Chuckles D did not have an extra $2,000 to pay down his debt after Bush's tax cuts than I think you need to learn about the changes in the tax code Bush made.

A person who made $50,000 during the last tax year of full Clinton's tax hike, 2000, (which had to be filed by April 2001) assuming this person filed with a status of single and used the standard deduction, would have paid:

$11,984 in taxes

After all of Bush's tax cuts went into effect in tax year 2004 (which had to filed by April 2005), a person who made $50,000, again assuming he filed with a status of single and used the standard deduction, would have paid:

$10, 512.50 in taxes

The difference between the two taxes bills is $1,471.50, which is nearly $2,000 less in 2005 than in 2001. So, I have no doubt that Chuckles D did, indeed, pay $2,000 less in taxes under Bush's plan.

Please see the link below for the effective tax rates in the tax years 2000 and 2004.

Well since the fiscal policies of the Democratic party tend to favor the middle class, nothing. The Democrats will help the middle class tremendously.

By the way chuckles, you didn't get a 2000$ tax cut, if you think that, I feel sorry for you.

Revoke the tax cuts. I have been paying off a lot of debt with the 2,000 or so odd dollars I have not been paying.

Are the dem's afraid we will get out of debt so they cannot keep us enslaved?

It will be interesting to see what they do. I expect minimum wage will be their first order of business.

They step out of line too far, however, and they lose the 2008 election.

It's funny that you would say that ... although the "middle class" grew to it's highest point during Clinton's legislation...

why is that?

The minimum wage hike. Once it goes into affect, prices will rise and even though your wages will rise, the amount that you can buy with those higher wages will be less than before.
