I am on Ortho Tri-Cyclen and have been for about 4 months now. I have been having really bad nightmares and anxiety at night right after taking the pill. I have also gained some weight and am hungry all the time. I am not sure whether it is the pills or just nerves. I aslo want to sleep all the time. Alot of the sites I have checked have mentioned the weight gain but none have said anything about nightmares. Any ideas?

My wife went on nuva ring and had no sex drive for 7 months.
Check with your doctor....not everything works right for everyone.

Hi! I have alot of trouble with birth control too. I hate having to take it! I have tried alot of low dose pills but they almost always give me some sort of symptom that I feel I should just not have to live with. Most of my symptoms are nausea or throwing up, headaches, tiredness, irritibility, feeling all over the place in my head, my boobs also hurt REALLY bad, sometimes I get food cravings. I also gained a tiny bit of weight. Currently I'm on that newer thing called the Nuva Ring. It seems to be working for me. All my previous side effects of the pill are pretty much gone, except for when I first start a new one. But these usually go away and you don't even know it's in. So far, it's been great. I would suggest it to anyone but as we all know, everyone is different. Hope this helped at least a little. Hope you feel better! God bless!

Yes! Actually I have been depressed lately and could not figure out why until my friend suggested that it was the birth control. I also have gained weight. Did you know another side effect is that it can reduce libido?
Anyways, I've searched on a lot of websites and they said that gaining weight and such were normal, but if depression (or even nightmares) continue, you should talk to your doctor.
Read this article, its very informative.

Everyone is different. But I've been on the "pill" for years....with zero side affects. I completely disagree with the whole weight gain thing, if you gain any weight at all it wouldn't be anything substantial...maybe a pound or two? I've actually had positive affects from mine....such as clearer skin and regular menstrual cycles. Some people are more sensitive to the pill...but alot of what your experiencing doesn't sound like it would have to do with the pill? Good luck!

If you're at all worried, speak to your doctor. Are you under a lot of stress? It might not be related to the pill at all. Is there any chance you're pregnant? Sometimes symptoms of pregnancy are the same as stress but I'd do the test just to be sure. If it's negative then speak to your doctor and enquire about different methods of contraception. Hope you feel better soon x

I've tried just about everything Othro makes. i had NO libido, suffered from lethargy and depression, anxiety and stress, and had migraines for the first time in my life. i also gained 30 pounds. I thought it was me and my environment until i went off the pill and saw the difference. my doctor just kept switching me from thing to thing, trying to convince that BC didn't cause any libido problems, etc. I had to do my own research.

however, not ready for kids now and my spouse doesn't like condoms, so I'm going to be trying it again. this time, nothing in the Othro world though

I always had really bad migraines to the point I felt like I was going to explode. I heard about the weight gain but it never happened to me. Are you on any other meds? I had nightmares and anxity when I took Clariton and the Pill. The nightmares felt like real life and when I woke up I was really freaked out by them. They were very violent ones too.
Maybe the doc can change your dosage. OR, see what happens in a few months, they might go away on their own. Good luck.

Yes. It will make you gain weight and can mess with your moods. The pills have hormones in them (you know that) and hormones can make you gain weight, get irritable, get bloodclots and even cancer. That's part of life though.

I wouldn't take them if it were me because they are not necessary unless it's for fertility reasons (like TO get pregnant). I think it would be best to either obstain or to use another form of protection.

Gained some weights. But you can talk to your doctor, there is so many birth control pills on the market and he/she can give you another one. Having nightmares this is not good.

I got hives after taking the shots and then after trying the pills. I'm telling you those things mess you up. And doctors do not care enough to find you one that won't make you sick. After I had my two kids, I just went ahead and got a tubal. No worries!!
