I tried every station not broadcasting but the sound was still very fuzzy. I live in a very populated area and there aren't many stations that don't broadcast on FM. Could this be the problem? Did I get a cheap transmitter ($40)?

Also, I was wondering... Should I spend the money to get a nicer one or opt for a portable docking station? If so which one? I would really like to be able to listen to the music in my car and at my house so I am seriously considering this option.

Thanks in advance =)

I have played with it like crazy. It does have a stonger signal in places but it still fuzzes alot... and I drive through 3 states to get to work (crazy huh?) so the placement changes as I go =(

No I don't have a tape deck, I drive a 2007 Malibu. So my car is new...

I also have an FM transmitter for my iPod (Geffen). I've learned to work with it, but I have found that it's very hit or miss. It pretty relies on being able to override whatever signal may be coming in on whatever frequency, and in some areas, it's not able to do so as well. When I first got the transmitter, I had a different than I have now, an older car. On that car, the antenna was in the back and it was near impossible for me to get a good signal. When I got a new car, one that had the antenna in the front, it became a lot easier to find channels that worked. I've also noticed that depending on where it's located in the car, the strength of the signal can vary significantly. I think, before you take the transmitter back, find some time to just go out in your car and play with different channels and different locations in to place the iPod.

That could be your problem, or it could just be a bad transmitter. Even the same models can vary in performance(the good thing is most electronics store won't have a problem with replacing it, with the same model, even without a receipt). Try that first.

If you have a tape deck(I know not many people do anymore) a cassette adapter may be a better choice for the car.

Look on ebay or something like that for the dock, I think they're raping us at retail prices :-). You also might appreciate one that has remote control.

Good luck!

I had the same problem when in london as there was alot of pirate stations, works fine in rural south west of england though, i was also thinking of getting a docking station but i opted for a snazy speeker by yamaha that works as a surround sound system for my telly, it was expensive but i have done away with my stereo as i play cds and radio through tv and xbox, model yamaha ysp 500 and well worth a look if you have a few quid!
