I'm asking about LAPAROTOMY, not laparoscopy.

I have a 4cm cyst on my left ovary.

It is terrible. Don't go through with it unless you absolutely have to.

Laparotomys are great.
The old surgical method, was to make a long incision in the abdominal wall, now this also took a long time to heal up. The new method is a small incision, the Doctor/surgeon, makes a small two inch incision, he can inset a small scope inside the incision and look around and correct things wrong, or remove cysts, tumors, etc. I was in the hospital a week for a large incision, I got to go home in a day for a laparotomy, of course both operations were for cysts on ovaries. An added benefit was the pain was much less.

Surgery via laproscopy is where they make a tiny incision and insert a small thin scope/tube and they can go in with a thin long scissors/tweezers like device and remover or do repairs to what every you are having surgery for.

It only hurts afterward when you cough or strain and there is good medication for the after-pain which will gradually subside. Full recovery is the rule.
