Did you choose your major based on what you want to learn or what you know you will do well in?

My situation is I am already with a company I can see myself staying with long-term but I'm still working on getting a degree. I'm interested in learning more about computers and while it may help me with my job, it will never be my job. So I'm torn between studying for something that I would love to learn but will never be great at, or something I know I will do well in and can also help with my job but I would not learn much. Any advice?

Thanks!

I selected my major, because it was in the field I was always interested in. For the most part, I am happy with my choice.

If you already have the job based on your current education, and you don't see earning the degree in your field as important to advancing in your field, then I recommend studying something that will intrigue and interest you since that will make studying it that much more enjoyable. If you are interested in it, you are likely to also do well.

In the U.S. often simply having a degree in anything is enough to put you ahead of others, but in some fields, having a specialized degree related to your field is much more important. You need to determine which is the case in your field.

See if your company will pay for an addiction to YA!... I mean uh, for a college degree.

It depends what job you are in now. Information Technology (IT) grads will get well paying jobs, if you can find one. Extremely competitive. I am unsure what you are doing now, so I can only suggest business.

My friend's mom just got her degree at 46 in Business Administration, which is somewhat difficult, but still one of the easier majors. Online might be an option for you.

I chose a major that I liked and that I did well in. Maybe you could do one of those 'design your own' majors. You could mix what you like to do with what you need to do.

I followed my heart and it came naturally.
