I drive a 2004, Chevy Cavalier...how many miles can I drive with the gas light being on???

I wouldn't do this as these cars have their fuel pumps immersed in the gas in the tank which is used as a cooling mechanism. When you run these very low on fuel or run them dry, the fuel pumps will overheat and can be damaged which will result in a repair bill of around a thousand bucks!!! If you really want to know, drive it till dry with your trip meter on at first indication of low fuel with a jerry can of gas in the trunk.

The best way to answer this is, next time the light comes on. Take a can of gas with you and drive untill it stops. Most cars can be driven from 30 to 50 miles when the light comes on, on the average you will have about 3 gallons left.

If you are talking about a low fuel indicator, it's not a good idea to drive very far after it comes on. Cavaliers are known to run out of fuel when the gauge is on empty, unlike some cars that can 50 or 60 miles after the gauge reads empty. Plus it's not good for the fuel pump in the fuel tank to run close to empty all the time.

I agree with hangtroj. You risk burning out the fuel pump when you run it low. But to answer your question, our daughter had an 04, and she had no choice once and got 20 miles without running out.

Read the manual! Mine will go for 150-miles till light to plum empty! and its a 2000!

not a very wise thing to do and there is no way to tell you how far. it all depends on how and where you drive but no more than 50 miles

i've done 30 and run out of gas in mine!! so i'd say 25 max!

they all vary a little
so get a gas can, fill it up, bring it along and test your car
