I bought a baby heart monitor, I don't know if it was because it was cheap (20 dollars), but it said that i would be able to hear kicking and hiccups and stuff. I am only 4 months pregnant and it says you wont be able to hear the heart beat until 5. I was just getting ansy and wanted to make sure everything is still OK. We tried it on my belly and I heard lots of noises, then we tried it on my boyfriend and heard the exact same noises. Do they even work??

After reading your answers I guess my 20 dollars could have been better spent on CRAVINGS!

yea-some of them dont work until 8th or 9th month-it really just depends on how strong your babys heartbeat is.
and you have to be very precise & know exactly where baby's heartbeat is to actually find it .

9 times out of 10--the heartbeat you are hearing is your own.
next time you are at your doctors and he/she checks for baby's heartbeat-try to remember exactly where he heard/found it

personally I think they are a waste of money
you could always take yours to your next appt though and if the doctor or nurse has a free minute--ask them if they can find the heartbeat using whatever monitor you got.

Yeah they work.
Just wait a little longer.
I thought the same thing when I got mine.
Got really antsy and started reading the pamphlet that comes with it, before I thought about returning it, and figured out what those sounds were. Different tones mean different things;
The sounds that you heard on both you and your boyfriend is probably either your blood flowing or your digestive system.

Remember that the ones that the doctors have are soooo much better though, cuz the gel that they use gets better recetion, I guess you can say. Hehehe
Good Luck and Congragulations! :)

everything i've ever read from anyone who had one says they're crap, about 1 in 50 people can hear anything besides stomach grumbelings. i'm told a stethascope works a little better if you want to hear the heartbeat starting at about 22 weeks.

i had one. mine said it worked late in the second to early in the third trimester. i had the same problem. i asked my midwife about it and she said doctors and such hate things like that because they cause unwanted alarm in their patients. we are not trained to use them. we do not know were to put the thing on our bellies to find the best spot to hear the heart beat. and yes who knows if they even really work. my sister in law and i were pregnant at the same time. she had one and swore it worked. i tried listening to hers on her belly and still heard the same stuff i heard on mine and my husbands! so no i don't think they work or at least not as well as the ones heath care providers use.
