Because Netflix has approximately 10,000 more available movies than Blockbuster, particularly indies/foreigns and TV shows.

Each company has different contracts with distribution companies. If you check out Hollywood Video and Blockbuster and go through movie by movie, you will also find a large variety of movies that are only in one and not the other.
