I dont know ghost shrimp are usually used to feed other fish. Or sometimes even used as bait by fishermen! unfortunately ghost shrimp have a very short life expectancy. they are super sensitive to water conditions, even if yours tested okay there may be something undetectable that affected the shrimp. i had this happen. also, sometimes when they molt the molt is unsuccessful, since they are more vulnerable without their exoskeleton. i used to keepp ghost shrimp but got frustrated with their short term longevity. redundant?? they're cool, but frustrating.

Ghost shrimp can live for a couple of years.

Edit: Ghost shrimp are NOT difficult to keep. Some people may have bad luck with them, but I never have. I've had one in my tank for almost 2 years now, and it's stil going strong. It's been through 2 moves and a variety of water conditions. They are fine with most water conditions, so long as extremes are avoided.

It depends entirely on their stock, rather like guppies.

Feeders? They aren't going to live so long. If you're buying ghost shrimp that are bred for pet purposes? You'll probably get a few years out of them.

As a form of spirit, a ghost shrimp will never die. Unless it is eaten by a ghost shark or manatee. Then it will.
