I love this book I think it's hilarious
Anyway, Curley wear a glove full of vaseline so his hands could stay soft and tender when he is touching his wife.
Remember where it says that he is a saoft hand not like any other man, all the guys were making fun of him.

Curley does this because he is a boxer, so therefore his hands get bbeat up (no gloves in those days). And he wants to keep one hand soft and silky smooth for his lady
