Yes, silver can be coated with mercury. Back in the days when U.S. dimes were actually made from silver, people used to coat them to get a shiny liquid-though-solid appearance. You cannot do it properly, however, and you will wind up poisoning yourself. There are some persons who seem more susceptible to developing symptoms on exposure to mercury.
