My daughter has a cold and I was wondering if giving her fever reducing medicine will slow her road to recovery. Right now she is sitting at 99.2 which isnt dangerous. Should i give fever reducing medicine or let the fever do what iti s trying to do?

99.6 is really considered within normal range for temps. If she doesn't really need a fever-reducing agent, I don't think it would help much.

Sometime...A fever is mother natures way of killing off infections. Fevers can be dangerous if not managed propperly, but we're talking quite higher than 99.2. The benefit of medicine it allows the patient to sleep comfortably and the rest will aid in recovery.

This is just my opinion and ill probably be chastised for it from some parents but I don't care. Just to give some background... I have a 6 six year old daughter who was constantly sick as a baby. It started with getting colds about once every two weeks. I took her to her doc and he said she had allergies. He put her on 2 different medications and said she would be fine. She started to get way worse and then he said she had asthma from the allergies so he put her on even more medications. By the time she was two, he had given her steroids, frequent antibiotics, was on two different breathing treatments that she had to do 2 times a day each, 2 different allergy medications and I was constantly giving her ibuprofen and Tylenol. At that point I was desperate.I couldn't believe how many medications I was giving her on a daily basis and couldn't even work out of fear that someone else would give her too much, too little or mess up the timing on them all. That's when I started to do research. After reading and researching for about a week, I decided to put her health in my own hands instead of the hands of someone who thinks its ok to over medicate children for their kick backs from pharmaceutical companies. I took her off EVERYTHING. I started giving her all natural herbs that help o rebuild the immune system and promoted good lung function. Only once her fever reached over 102 would I give her any kind of fever reducer. After about one week. Her frequent fevers started to go away, her wheezing and coughing started clearing up and her overall heath did a complete turn around. Now at 6 she barely gets sick, her allergies and asthma are completely gone and she's a typical kid. She's very gifted and was the top of her class during kindergarten. People please stop over medicating your kids! The human body is an amazing thing and its designed to get rid of these things. Of course there are going to be times when you have to give them medicine. But its becoming way to popular to just give them whatever the doctor says to make your life more convenient or because we are scared that others will think we are bad parents. Well I think the opposite. To me, bad parenting is people giving their children horrible medications that we have no clue what the long term impact will be all because we don't educate ourselves and let somebody else decide what goes in our children bodies. Take control of your lives and your children lives. It might be a pain in the butt at first, but its worth it.

What exactly do you think the fever is trying to do? When you have a fever it is a indication that you have a infection. you should give her fever reducing med. fever can be dangerous, if it is to go up and you can not break it try alternating between Motrin and Tylenol.
