Whether you believe it's true or not. I only say legend because these sorts of animals haven't been proved to the community at large yet, not to say that they don't necessarily exist.

I'm fond of our local legend, The Michigan Dogman. Said to be a shapechanger that has roamed the northwest lower part of Michigan for 150 years.

I live in New Jersey and I love that Jersey Devil legend, my Girlfriend said She saw the thing eating a dog in the Pine Barrons!!! Too cool, but sad for the dog!
