My Big Sis. And my Mom think that I should start watching my 10 month old niece,,she is great and we have a lot of fun when I play with her,,but I’ve never babysat a baby before ? And I have some freetime before clases start. I’m nervous that I’d do something wrong and she would be inconsolable. Any good tips on how to baby sit? Things I should definitely avoid?

If your pretty familiar with your neice then there shouldnt be alot of problems. 10 month olds are very curious so they will need more attention and more care then, say a 6 year old.
Ask the mom about any special routines like bedtimes, what his favorite food is, and his favorite toys.

When I babysat 11 month old yesterday she had enjoyed watching some kids cartoons on t.v. for about 30 minutes, even though she probobly didnt understand it.
Talk to the baby alot. They love communication and maybe have ways of indicating what they want.
When the baby looks tired you should try to put him to bed.
Dont just plop him into bed though. This is what i did.
I got a nice warm bottle of milk and got into an adult size bed and read to the baby.
She seemed to like it alot. She fell asleep in a couple of minutes and I transfered her to her crib.
Have the moms number by you so if you have any questions she can answe them but do try to ask them before she leaves the house.

Dont worry you will do fine! It is quite fun babysitting!

Hey Sean, you should definitly get some infant CPR and First Aide Classes. Your local Red Cross would provide these at a minimal cost. Its good to be prepared. Will you be responsible for feeding her before class? Make sure she doesn't eat something she might be allergic to. If she is starting to walk, just keep an eye on her. Have fun! Babies are a lot of fun. If she does cry and it becomes too much for you, put her down in a safe place, and walk a way for a cooling off period for both of you. Talk to your mom and sister about your concerns.

Sing lots of nursery rhyme songs. Read lots of books. Turn the music on and dance with a scarf or something to trail behind you. Hold the baby and dance. Put her in her high chair and let her play with about a teaspoon of pudding or something like that. She'll like the texture on her hands and get a kick out of eating it. Give her a bath with lots of bubbles. Put her in a stroller and go for a walk. Pick up stuff along the way and tell her what the stuff is. (Tree bark, sticks, leaves) talk about the object, texture, color, shape, etc...

It's a lot of work but it's fun and mostly all play

Listen to me man the first thing that you should do is make sure that you dont lose your niece. The second thing is to make sure to that you have fun and dont worry about it after you do it once you get the hang of it. The 3 thing that you need to do is make sure that you keep her happy and dont make her cry.

babys like to put everything in their mouth so make sure you dont have anything bad laying around. most babys are on a routine so you might want to find out what it is.

She'll want to crawl around all over the place so keep dangerous or precious objects away from her!
