You've already answered your own question, am stands literally for ante-meridiem, which means before noon, or in other words, morning. pm stands literally for post-meridiem which means after noon, or in other words, afternoon.

Are you looking for differnt meanings for the abbreviations?...you already know them, but if you want some other meanings you could have after midnight for am and post morning for pm

A.M. is after midnight and before noon.
P.M.is after noon and before midnight.
Pure and simple...though your notes show you were already familiar with the more traditional terms. Hope this helps!

Morning and afternoon and ante-meridian and post-meridian. I don't think there are any hidden definitions..... unless you are looking for the creative response.
