Not a real period. When a woman is pregnant, hormones are released that suppress the ripening of an egg. When no egg ripens, no egg is released to go down the Fallopian tube and the uterine lining doesn't age and leave the body...

I've heard that spotting is normal, but you shouldn't have a real period till after the baby is born. If you're worried, call your doctor, or ask at your next appointment.

Some women do experience a form of period during pregnancy. As long as your doctor has determined that it's not a signficant problem, then you should be fine. However, typically in pregnancy a woman stops seeing her period. It may mean that you may have to go on bed rest. But if your mother and grandmother had the same condition then that points to factors of heredity.

However, tell your doctor about your concerns and formulate a plan. Anxiety is not a good a thing for a pregnant woman. I hope that you do well and have a healthy baby.
