If you think intuitively you don't even have to delve too far into the math.

The 6m statue casts a 2m shadow. So the item is 3 times as tall as its shadow.

This ratio should hold for all items. If you have a 10m shadow... how tall is the flag pole? It's 3 x 10 = 30m.

The long way is to write expressions for the ratios:

Let x be the height of the flag pole in meters.

By similar triangles you have:

x ... 6
-- = --
10 . 2

Cross multiplying you have:
2x = 60

Then divide both sides by 2:
x = 30

So the flag pole is 30 meters tall.

ratios of the heights to the shadows are equal. let x=height of the flag pole.

x/10=6/2=3 multiply both sides by 10
x=30 m
the flagpole is 30m high

6 is to 2 as is x is to 10

6 times 10 divided by 2 = 30 (answer)

tanz=6/2=3
if x is the height of pole
x/10=tanz=3
x=30m
