South Carolina's streak went from 1946 to 1995, ironically ended when they beat West Virginia in the Carquest Bowl to give the Mountaineers their 5th in their 8 game streak, which extended from 1987 until 2000.

South Carolina and another team had 8 losses. Notre Dame now holds the mark all by themselves. Why nine losses? Because it is a matter of money and hype. When it comes to the media no team is hyped like Notre Dame. Also, Notre Dame has a huge following which bowls love because they will fill the hotels and dining halls. As a result, Notre Dame is invited to a more attractive bowl game than what their team has accomplished. Thus, they are over matched but the bowl people are happy. Most sports analysts thought LSU would dominate Notre Dame and perhaps they were not worthy of a Sugar Bowl invite. Well, LSU kicked butt but the hotels and dining halls were full.

You gotta be overated and play good teams for 9 years in a row. Like Notre Dame did.

South Carolina and West Virginia have each lost 8 in a row at one point.

Notre Dame is often overexposed and overrated (in no small part thanks to NBC), so they get invited to high profile bowls that they aren't really qualified to be at. That combined with some bad luck leads to 9 straight losses.

The question should be is how did they even get into 9 bowls in a row.

They were tied with two other teams, neither of them recent stretches...and yes ND sucks horribly, this is why Ive said all along that they are rediculously overrated
