As an african american who grew up in the "hood' (southside Chicago), I am sick and tired of rappers getting away with calling me a n***a (n***r) and my sister a "ho" (whore). Yet they all cry fowl when an "outsider" does it once in a lifetime. Let us not exclude the predominant white owned corporations that solicit this idiotic behavior. The FCC is a joke.

The FCC only has control of the airwaves, not recordings. I don't know what their policy on the word "whore" on TV or the radio is, but I don't think I've ever heard the n-word on a broadcast medium.

Also, this is a free speech issue and I don't think what people say should be regulated by any government agency. If you have a problem with something someone says either don't buy their product or write them or their publishing company a letter.

I agree, The word is getting a little out of hand. But I feel like banning the word only gives it it's power back. What's the point, people will still use it and when they do it will mean soooo much more! I just don't think it makes sense. Banning that would start an epidemic! Then all swears would be banned from music , before you know it we would'nt even be able to practice the freedom on speech amendment. What it all boils down to is that we're all adults and we know what should be said from what shouldn't. Yeah people have culture and heritage. That word is part of our heritage. It was just fine for everyone to use it in slave days and now as soon as we strip it of it's power everyone wants to ban it. Come on people!!!

Just wondering how this is the White mans fault this time. In case you haven't noticed, when we say it, we get torched. Maybe the finger should be pointed at the real problem here, the african american men and women who don't respect their own people and women enough to refer to them in respectable ways.
This is by no means meant to be racist, I also grew up in the "hood", and because of this I know there are many african americans who would never talk like that, because they love and respect their community and the people in it.
this is not an FCC problem, the problem is the clowns who use the language, they shouldn't be so dumb that someone needs to tell them to respect their own culture, they should just do it like the rest of us.

It's political correctness and respect of diversification gone out of control. It has become a one way street. Some groups can say what they want, and it's okay, because it's their right and heritage. If others say the same thing, they are labeled a racist and subjected to public ridicule. While I'm not condoning what he did and said, look at Michael Richards. Yet as you stated, many rappers do the same thing and it's "okay" and "cool."

The FCC only controls what is allowed on the airwaves. They can't preclude freedom of speech. Lots of stuff is said and done that perhaps shouldnt be.

no being mean or anything, i am of native heratidge, but some of the rappers that use the fowel languge are native americans... doesn't that draw questions to mind? another thing that i have to say doesn't one of the amendments say "freedom of speech" and belie me not only the FCC is a joke, but nowadays life is a joke, and that is sad...

AMEN!! It's actually refreshing to hear you say that. I'm white, and I occasionally say the n-word, and my MIL has a hissy fit when I do it. But she works with a lot of black people and they say it all the time. She has no problems with it. That is so stupid, is it not? And the FCC IS a joke.

The FCC only regulates what is put on PUBLIC radio, TV, etc. They really have no control over what rappers put on their CDs, as long as the CDs are labeled Explicit - they can say whatever they want................Free Speech.........Remember?

You're correct, I believe. A lot of the rap music suggests violence against cops and others, and that is not valid freedom of speech, any more than yellng fire in a theater.

Plus, it's mostly a noise nuisance in violation of many ordinances.

I wouldn't worry about what rappers have to say... if you put 20 of them in a room you'd still be lucky to find as much as a single brain cell present
