Your child should start having Homogenized milk at one year. No snacks in the car if he would start to choke it would be really hard for try to pull over. Trust me I know (it happened to me) Just try to give a meal before long trips and when you can get chance pull over then give it to him or her.
But some good snacks are
Any gerber food snack cookies
Hot dogs in a jar made by gerber
grapes but it to fours peel the skin
kiwi peal the skin cut into pieces
mac and cheese cook a little extra longer for softer
mashed potatoes

Gerber has finger foods like fruit puffs, veggie puffs, etc. or the wagon wheels, they melt in their mouth so quick you wont have to worry about him choking with his snacks.

The poster who said the Veggie Puffs and Wagon Wheels ... my son just loved the sweet potato puffs.

Adult foods still pose a choking hazard ... as the chewing instinct hasn't really developed yet.

don't start milk until he's a year old. cheerios are iffy at this age, it's still too easy for them to choke, especially in a car seat where you can't reach him while driving. Arrow biscuits are good, they don't get mushy and fall apart, or saltine crackers

Ask your doctor or a health unit nurse. Just because he has teeth doesn't mean his digestive system is ready for big people food
