hello there everyone, thank you for your time, well my husbands works for a dealership where his boss requires him to wear a uniform that is laundered by a laundering company, but he has had my husband and many other employees sign this paper saying that my husband and his co-workers will have these laundering fees deducted from their pay. I thought that if its a uniform that the employer has to pay for maintaining them. i live here in california. also my husband gets commission and his boss is a jerk that is a cheap bastard. this guys has millions of bucks and he is selfish. my husband has been there for at least 1 1/2 yr adn the boss has deducted 2% from their salaries. instead of giving them raises amd incentives for doing a good job for him he takes from them which pisses everyone of and makes them not ant to work so hard. also they raised the insurance rates and check this out for christmas they gave everyone there a gift card for jamba juice for 20 dollars. no bonus or nothing

I would think it's the companies responsibility to pay for the uniforms. Where I work our truck drivers have to wear them and the company pays for laundering. My husband also wears one where he works and it is also paid for by the company for laundering. Not sure why they would force the employee to pay for it.

That's horrible that his employer is deducting his pay. My dad is in the same situation. His boss cut his pay by 50% 4 years ago and only did it to him and no one else. They said the price of the product they sell went up but in fairness if they did it to him, they should have done it to everyone. He also has no insurance, no paid vacation/sick days and no bonuses.

Unfortunately there are plenty of bosses just like your husband's boss. If your husband and coworkers signed the agreement to deduct from their pay the laundering fees, you are bound by that agreement.....honestly, if i were your husband, i would sure be looking around for a new job, no need to put up with an abusive employer....especially one that gives no incentives. Best of luck to you and your family.

I believe that if the employer does not launder them for you (not required by law) that the cost is tax deductible as a work expense (if you itemize).
Don't quote me but it's worth checking out!
The boss does sound like a jerk -- usually they pay & write the expense off on their own books!
If you have to pay yourselves, then you should be free to shop around & take the uniforms to the cheapest or best choice for you.

Almost every job that I have had that required me to wear a uniform I was required to pay the expense of having it cleaned. It depends on the job. He signed the contract and that makes it his obligation. Just make sure that he's not paying more then it costs to have it cleaned. He is allowed by law to see the receipt.

Of course that's being taken advantage of. WHY is your husband still there?? Grow some cajones, change what can be changed, and stop complaining about things that can't be changed. With 1 and a half year's experience, he can find a great boss and situation. Best of luck.

well we cant have it all right, not most companys offer the opition for lundry services due to the type of work required as to save wear and tear on clothing,so ask your human resource office if you can do the uniforms your self to save paying a laundry service ,but then you will have to rinse out your washer with a load of cleaning solivent after you do the uniforms as to make sure that what ever his job requires doesnt end up on your on clothes,so really you have to dicied is it worth it to do them at home or to just pay for the service,I personally payed to have mine done when I worked for this onecompany for I did not what all the extra work load....

Well, because your husband signed the paper, they can. If you don't think it is legal, get an attorney. If he hates his job that much, get a new one.
