American idol when I'm 18. The thing is, is that I would like to be a country singer. Do you think people would vote for a person who comes from a big city as opposed to coming from a small southern town like Carrie underwood? So saying in some small minute chance that I were to win, do you think people would shun me as a country singer just for coming from a big city even if I have a good country style singing voice?? Would I ever be able to reach the level of success that Carrie Underwood has reached even if I start from a big city?? by the way, I was born and raised in Chicago and moved here two years ago and DO NOT like it. I've always wanted to live in a small town and recently I've really felt like it's where I belong but I don't really have a choice seeing as I'm still a young person. I really want to try out for American idol but the only type of music I would like to sing is country(I love country music so much and it's my style of singing.) so please reply I'm confused.

That's what I mean, like if I'm not southern, would people accept me as a country singer? like who branded Carrie underwood a country singer was it just because she was from a farm and a small town so we all labeled her "country girl?"

I don't think where your from really matters. If you enjoy singing and have a nice voice than you should be fine. Of course there will be those jerks who shun everyone just for attention but you will gain more respect for following your dream than you will lose. I say go for it. Have a good time and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

I don't think people really care whether you come from a small town or not. It only matters if you can sing. Good luck with your dream!

I dont think people care much about where the person comes from, the big thing is whether they can sing. That and personality.
