i've used Photo Finish Foundation Primer from smashbox cosmetics you put it on underneath your foundation and it helps keep it on longer and look better... and it "does double-duty as a primer and a mattifier, while the unique formula helps to inhibit the destruction of collagen, and fills in fine lines." ... you can get it at sephora.com

The primer I have used was for the eyelids. I think there are some make up lines that offer it for the full face and possibly the lips. The stuff I used was from Mary Kay and it was a couple of bucks like $10.00 a tube maybe. I believe the purpose of it is to create a smooth, one tone surface to apply make-up to. And it helps eyeshadow stay on your eyes longer and more evenly. Personally I use a concealer from Physician's Direct (from Target, Walgreen's, CVS, etc.) for the same effect and it works well for about $7.00 a tube.

primer is so the makeup stays. you put it on before you put on your usual makeup. it helps eyeshadow from creasing, eyeliner from smearing, and foundation from sliding off your face. a good brand would be m.a.c. (: hope that helps !
