Celeron D is a scaled down Pentium 4... needless today it typically is not up to par for the most part... however! Older Pentium 4 models have a lower clock speed and the same amount/even lower cache than a CeleronD.

If you're thinknig of replacing a very old Pentium 4 with a newer Celeron D (for example, a 1.7GHZ P4 with a 2.35GHZ CD) than that is a solid investment because the Celeron has the same amount of Cache and on top of that, higher speed. Therefore improving things significantly. But a new P4 will knock the socks off an old Celeron..

Also, Pentiums and Celerons are soon to be released again in a new revision based on the Core 2 Duo chips. Only single core.

No...Celeron Processors are the Economy line of Intel. The cache is much smaller on Celeron processors.
