Because most chinatown has a long history an is a traditional term from China. In chinese we spell "tang ren jie" and the chinese spelling is "唐人街". The term comes from an era of chinese history call Tang Dynasty. In the past most chinese in foreign countries needs an area for their own and they set up an area called chinatown. chinatown mostly exist in countries where chinese is not a majority. There is no chinatown in china, hongkong and taiwan because these countries are almost entirely populated by the chinese and they don't need it except singapore, where they exists under a different term. As for other race I'm not sure but I can tell you on chinese part. Hopes this helps.

maybe thats because black people arent always from Africa and no doubt calling a place 'pakitown' within a city would cause a riot! and one other, little thing, are there actually towns were everyone is split up like that? chinatown in manchester is only called so because of the volume of chinese restuarants there but all sorts of people live there.

I think that this one is an excellent one!
I couldn't stop laughing, but it's true isn't it?
You got me thinking, but I couldn't find any sensible answer.
I don't suppose it's because they wouldn't want to insult or give more power to African people; Why would they choose to do it to Chinese people.
No, really that's a good one. Can't think of any suitable answer; but am definitely interested in the answer to that one!

Black, is a color not an ethnic group. It probably took you all day to come up with this question with help from your one friend and you should get a little credit for at least TRYING to sound as if you were coherent. These questions get worse and worse as more people jump on the bandwagon.
