Living in big cities is terribly expensive and for most young people, you need to have a roommate or roommates in order to keep costs affordable. What are the questions you should ask in order to know if you can cohabitate in peace? I love craigslist for finding places, but I just cannot stand to live in another place where I don't know the people that I am living with and where no one speaks to anyone.

I would interview potential roommates in person. That way you can see if the keep a room that is expressly for hanging out together. Not everyone is comfortable doing this and many just simply don't have time. Those roommates who would also like to socialize will naturally take the time and it will be obvious.

Usually good friends that decide to live together don't end up good friends. People tend to take advantage of others. Sit down and make a list of things you want out of the living arrangements make them agree and sign with witnesses. You don;t want to be left making all the rent and bills.

References might help. If they have a job. What kind of hours do they keep. Are they a drinker or a smoker. If you were to invite someone to your home for dinner. What would you expect out of this person? You wouldn't just invite anyone right?
