Stephen King also wrote a book a long time ago called The Eyes of the Dragon. It's more of a fantasy-type than horror; a retelling of the theme of the good king whose resentful younger brother usurps his throne. No gore, no explicit sex, violence, or language, and not even quite as much fascination with bodily fluids as usual. It's quite good.

According to my lovely wife and Stephen King afficianado, Eyes of the Dragon is the only children's book that SK wrote (specifically for his kids no less) and it has no "inappropriate content".

I wouldn't say the same for different seasons, "Apt Pupil" is particularly disturbing.

I think that would probably be Different Seasons (the one with The Body aka Stand By Me) in it - there is another he wrote with Peter Straub called The Talisman which is pretty inoffensive and a good read to boot.
The Dark Tower series are OK too.

Why would you want to read Stephen King if you don't want inappropriate content?

And what the heck is 'inappropriate content' anyway? Inappropriate for whom?

I just finished "Stationary Bike" and don't recall anything inappropriate, very different from King's other books that I am familiar with.
