you can get the chocolate for pay as you go. like i got my chocolate from http://www.doiop.com/chocolor and i activated it on tmobil's pay as you go service.

You can purchase an LG Chocolate at the store and activate it to a prepaid plan through Verizon. They're expensive. My store sells them for $325, but you might be able to get them for a little cheaper. Don't expect to pay any less than $250 though.
When you sign a contract, phones are much, much cheaper. They're more expensive for prepaid plans because you need to pay the full retail price for the phone. You don't get discounts when you pay full retail price for a phone.
