Many things can cause an abnormal pap:
1. Pre cancerous cells
2. The time of the month you have the test done
3. Having sex before the exam
Sometimes it's a mistake on the part of the lab, or even how the cells were collected. You could have an abnormal pap today and tomorrow it will be fine. Just keep up on it to make sure it goes back to normal.

Abnormal cells. Things like the HPV virus and any sort of disease like herpes. Its good to get checked once a year if something does show up. Also, if you do sleep with a new partner, even if they say they've been tested and nothing showed up, the HPV virus doesn't show in male studies. Its up to you to get the extra bit of testing.
Tah tah!
