There are plenty of write-ups online on how to build a decent gaming computer for around $1000. The issue is that you are talking about the best. That is had to do since you can blow as much as $10,000 + for the "best".

I can tell you this much though, chances are you do not need the best, or even second best or third best. That is just an obsession we have that we want the "best" when we only need something that works.

With all that said Alienware is expensive and overpriced.

there are plenty of big brands like alienware but honestly those are all way overpriced. If you have a lot of money and are impatient go ahead and get one of those, i would suggest how ever you build your own. You can go to a huge online store like www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com and get good prices on all the parts.

And honestly its really not very hard to build. I built my first computer in middle school, and i had no idea what i was doing. There are tutorials online that you can google, and if you need help at any point you can go to one of many forums and just ask a question (like http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/building-computers/ ).

There are acouple main parts you need and you will be fine:
1. A case, you can have a snazzy case to show off to your friends but you will be spending 50-200 dollars more for it.

2. Motherboard
3. processor
4. Ram
all three of those you have to make sure they are compatable. Not so hard if you jsut look at the specs, but you can always double check on a forum.
5. Videocard. for gaming this is obviously important. At this point you want a pci express card.
6. Soundcard. Not neccesarily essential because many motherboards come with onboard sound, but if you get a sound card it will make a difference.
7. Network adapter again might come onboard, and if it does that is fine.
8. Physics card - If you are trying to have the best gaming computer you should get one, if not, not needed at all.

That might seem like a long list, but its really very simple. Any way i hope that helps some.

My recommendation is to pick up the latest edition of PC Gamer magazine, which has an extensive article on how to build a gaming PC on any budget. If you are not inclined to build your own, it also has an article that does a round-up of all the different gaming computer makers and how they stack-up. Makes me wish I'd have built mine instead of buying a Dell XPS system.

My opinion - if you're going to spend $$$$ on a gaming PC, then spend the 5.95 on the PC Gamer and do a little research.

Good luck, and happy gaming!

The best computer to buy for gamming, would be the one that you bought and put together on your own. With Alienware you are just paying for a name and nothing more.

However if you want a company that is the best. The best is Falcon Northwest.

For the people that have never heard of them. You don't know gamming PCs until you use a Falcon.

games are amoung the most demanding things you can do with a computer.. you'll need a generally high spec.. lots (minimum 1gb) of ram is essential as is a good graphics card (say, a geforce 7800 or better) and the best processor you can buy on top of that (intel core 2 processors are pretty sweet)

I hear Alienware is the best, but damn expensive.

You could try the Dell gaming system, but then again it IS a Dell.

You could also, if you know what you're doing, build your own system just as good but for cheaper.

Alienware is highly regarded. Avoid Dell, their computers are usually not tuned for gaming performance.

I build my own. You may want to consider doing the same, you can get much more performance for your money.

Search Dell or Alienware for their most expensive notebook computer..

Be prepared to spend about $4,000.

Or, if you know how, you can build one yourself for much less.
