I consider mental abuse when someone is calling you names, yelling at you, playing mind games, making you feel worthless and controling the way you should think.

When the other person ridicules you, puts you down all the time. Says one thing to you then does the total opposite (like let's go out on Tuesday, you get ready and then they tell you they've changed their minds).
Tells you how bad you look, even though you know you look good, tells you anything that isn't nice about yourself. That's mental abuse and it's just as bad as physical abuse.
Some people don't even know they're doing it.
I hope you aren't going through this - if you are you need to fight back and get it stopped.
Good luck

IS when someone keeps telling you the same thing about you that makes you think it's true. Like they might tell you you will never amount to anything in life. ANd after hearing it all the time you will believe it. It can be almost any phrase . also mental abuse is when someone makes an act of agression against you and but doesn't go thru it. It makes your mind scared and submissive to the person. Like if you married and he acts liek he is going to beat you and tells you he will but doesn't it makes your mind surrender to the. motions. In othere words it just plain and simple brainwashingand once your will is broken they will control you. SO want to chat with someone just IM me anytime.

Calling you names, implying that you are nothing and are doing nothing to make your relationship stronger, always blaming you for things gone wrong, if things don't go his way he gets angry, comparing you to past loves, throwing them in your face, tellilng you how you are lucky to have him cause he is so great thus making you feel less than him. I think emotional abuse is one of the hardest types of abuse to really know and understand. If you feel like it is, it more than likely is. GET AWAY from that.

If you are asking this because something that's been said to you hurt you bad enough to question what "mental abuse" is...you've been abused.

Deep down you know what mental abuse is. You just don't want to face it.
However, it is when someone who claims to love you puts you down. Calls you names that make you feel not worthy of love.
